Balance and Movement-Western Forms

Civilizatons throughout history and all over the world have known that the way we use or misuse our bodies affects our health. The link between habits and health has been taken for granted longest in Oriental countries, in which a wide range of methods to keep the body supple and strong has been established for hundreds of years. In the West it is really only since the early 20th century that a variety of techniques as wide-ranging as those in the East has developed.

At the same time we are all too aware that many of our aches and pains result from bad habits of posture and movement, contributing to a losing battle against gravity, and we may also suspect that it cannot be natural for our bodies (and minds) to become stiffer and more inflexible as we age.
