Weight Loss - Calories Don’t Count-Not Really!
According to a recent study in the Journal of the American Medical Association’s April 2003 issue, there is a no magic formula to losing weight. You can lose weight by following a variety of different diet programs; however, the one thing that always counts are the number of calories that you consume vs. the number of calories that you bum daily.
Yes, even those horrendous, low-carbohydrate diets work also, but that’s because they restrict calories also, not just carbohydrates. Also, they work because you are creating an unhealthy condition found in diabetics called ketosis, where you are burning protein instead of fat to lose weight. Unfortunately, the weight comes back twice, as fast when you stop the diet, if, however, you are fortunate enough not to have damaged your liver or kidneys while you were on this unsafe diet.
Unfortunately, Americans have been gaining so much weight in the last twenty years that obesity is becoming an actual epidemic. Over 60% of adults are overweight, which includes approximately 30% who are considered obese. This trend has almost tripled in teenagers during this same time period.
After reviewing over one hundred diet studies since 1966, the researchers concluded that if you want to lose weight, you should consume fewer calories daily over a long period of time. By restricting one type of food over another, as in the low-carbohydrate diets or high-protein diets, you are essentially making a weight loss program more difficult, and essentially more dangerous.
A low-fat, high-fiber diet with moderate amounts of protein and complex carbohydrates is the single, best healthy weight-loss diet that you can follow for good health and permanent weight-loss. There are no dangerous side effects, no feelings of hunger, and along with permanent weight-loss, you have the added benefit of a diet that is actually good for you. You will lose weight and have a lower incidence of heart disease, hypertension, strokes and several forms of cancer. This diet, by its very nature, turns out to be a low-calorie diet in disguise, and what’s more, it actually works and keeps on working. It is a diet plan that you can follow for a lifetime to lose and maintain your ideal weight, and maintain good health, longevity, and physical fitness.
